Middle School
Admired role models and leaders in our school community, Middle School students in Grades 5-8 experience tremendous intellectual and personal growth and achievement as they prepare for great success in high school, college, and beyond.
Meet the grades that comprise our Middle School:
Grade 5
The youngest children in our Middle School, fifth-grade students build on the solid academic foundation created in our Lower School Program and grow as inquisitive, independent learners. With a robust curriculum across language arts, math, science, social studies, and religion, students begin to explore deeper questions through discussion-based classroom opportunities and experiential learning. Complimentary to the Middle School curriculum are courses and electives in the fine and performing arts, music, and Spanish language instruction.
As children become acquainted with Middle School, our two homeroom classes of fifth-grade students take all of their classes together, mirroring the experience of our Lower School.
Grade 6
Sixth-grade students continue growing in their knowledge and understanding of higher-level concepts across core classes. Complimentary to the Middle School curriculum are courses and electives in the fine and performing arts, music, and Spanish language instruction. In Grade 6, differentiated instruction begins for math.
This year marks the first in which Middle School students begin to mix and form different groupings for their classes: Students have a homeroom group, an academic group, and a math group. These groupings create smaller learning environments that best fit the needs of the children.
Grade 7
Exploring deeper questions and topics in the classroom, seventh-grade students take full advantage of the curriculum and cocurricular offerings of the school. Our students begin to hone their skills especially in the areas of communication and collaboration through in-class activities, the performing arts, and athletics. In seventh grade especially, our students build confidence and are empowered to act as their own advocates for their learning needs.

Grade 8
As the eldest students in the school, eighth-grade students become leaders and role models for the rest of the student community. Our students are preparing academically for the next step in their education while serving as leaders in cocurricular pursuits, including the performing arts, athletics, Student Council, and activities.

Core Values of our Middle School
At Holy Child School at Rosemont, our Middle School embraces the soft skills of communication, collaboration, and creative and critical thinking while encouraging participation in student leadership and service-learning opportunities. Faculty and advisors foster a learning environment that allows for a deeper exploration of topics and questions as students prepare for the next step in their education.
- Students are empowered with more responsibility with choices of clubs, athletics, electives, music ensembles, and the performing arts.
- A strong advisory program coupled with discussions led by our school counselor help students with social-emotional learning and making the transition from Lower School to Middle School and ultimately on to a college preparatory high school.

- Responsible digital citizenship is taught through a curriculum infused with technology facilitated by a 1-to-1 Chromebook program and a Media, Arts, & Design Lab equipped with equipment and resources to learn video production and 3D design and printing

Friendships Connect Us to Our Community
An important and timeless school tradition, unique to Lower and Middle School, is our Buddy Program. Holy Child students eagerly await the chance to take part in this year-long school program where Lower School students are each paired with a Middle School Buddy. At school assemblies and specialized Buddy events, Buddy pairs come together to work collaboratively, play, and learn about one another.
Middle School Buddies are viewed as mentors and role models by their Lower School Buddies. Middle School students lead by example and connect with their Buddies over experiences and traditions shared by all Holy Child students.
Meaningful & Memorable: Middle School Overnight Trips
A hallmark of the Middle School experience at Holy Child School at Rosemont are the grade-level overnight field trips that serve as opportunities for hands-on learning and, more importantly, building community. In new and unfamiliar settings, often set in nature, the playing field is leveled, allowing students to connect and form friendships while canoeing through wetlands, learning wilderness survival skills, and exploring museums.
Physical and team-building activities keep our students active and engaged on each trip and provide a safe environment for encountering new challenges, spurring "aha" moments and personal growth. The overnight component of each trip instills independence in our students as they spend a few nights away from home, and problem-solving becomes a natural part of the experience.
Creative & Fun Pursuits Through Middle School Electives
Exclusive to Middle School are electives which supplement the cocurricular offerings of the school and provide students with creative and fun outlets during the school day. Electives are available to students across Grades 5-8, meaning that electives welcome a mixed group of students across grade levels and promote friendships throughout the whole division.
During a typical school year, three sessions of electives are offered, allowing students to explore different interest areas. Electives meet once every six days and past electives include: Cooking & Creating for a Cause, Ultimate Frisbee, Acting & Improv, Math Counts, and Fitness & Fun.
